The Open Source Research Collaboration (OSRC) was thrilled to design and lead a landmark workshop at the Emirates Society of Colon & Rectal Surgery (ESCRS) Conference in Dubai. As only the second session worldwide, and the very first in the region, dedicated specifically to artificial intelligence in surgery, the event marked a major milestone for our team and the surgical community.

During the session, OSRC presented three “home-grown” initiative showcases, serving up fresh, high-impact innovation for attendees:

  • Automated Performance Metrics: A live proof-of-concept demonstrated our proprietary software for real-time video analysis of laparoscopic surgery. Developed through a global collaboration spanning Denmark, Norway, and Pakistan, this platform translates surgical video into actionable, quantifiable data.
  • Data-Driven Surgical Modelling: We outlined our ambitious long-term framework for modeling surgical interventions, highlighting key milestones already achieved in this complex domain.
  • LLMs for Guideline Analysis: We unveiled a novel application using Large Language Models to intelligently analyze and synthesize surgical guidelines. Currently under peer review, this initiative sparked strong engagement and enthusiasm from participants.

While much of the healthcare industry is still talking about AI, OSRC is actively building it.

This workshop represents just the beginning of our mission. We welcome connections with surgeons, researchers, and innovators eager to shape the future of surgery. Contact us today or join our network to collaborate and help turn these cutting-edge concepts into clinical reality.
