The BJS–OSRC Session at the 27th Annual Conference of the Egyptian Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons

Cairo, Egypt – August 26–28, 2026

The session opened with a BJS lecture by Mahdi El-Taher from the UAE on “Optimizing Colorectal Cancer Management in Low- and Middle-Income Countries: Utilization of Limited Resources.”

The central message was highly relevant: innovation does not start with having more resources. It starts with understanding the resources you have, the challenges you face, and how to use what is available more effectively to address those challenges.

This was followed by a lively discussion and presentations of the five best abstracts selected for the BJS–OSRC session.

This year, we received a record number of abstracts compared with previous years, with broad international participation. The winning project was “Developing a Predictive Machine Learning Model for Assessing the Risk of Progression and Mortality in Patients with Colorectal Cancer,” presented by Sergey Gordeev from Russia.
