AI projects will be launched during the ESCP 2023
OSRC will launch three of its AI-based projects during the European Society of Colo-Proctology (ESCP) annual conference in Vilnius-Lithuania on the 29th September 2023.
This is a unique session in which surgeons, #researchers and computer #scientists will discuss three topics that might change the nature of surgical research.
Machine learning to analyse surgical #video films: how can this help surgeons to achieve peak performance in surgery?
How can we predict that factors that influence post-operative #recovery? is stress response a good method to assess the impact of surgery?
Any objective assessment that can help us to identify patients with high risk of anastomotic leak? how can pre-operative CT scans map the blood supply to colorectal #anastomosis and improve prediction of anastomotic leak?
In this session there will be a plenty of time for discussions.

OSRC Fellowship program
On the 6th-8th September OSRC will conduct a series of meeting with representatives from #Oslo university to finalize the fellowship program.
You must be an active member of OSRC to take part in these fellowship programs (active member is defined as someone who is paying membership fee and participate in OSRC activties).
University of Oslo agreed to provide accommodation and logistic support to fellows while OSRC will provide supervision during the fellowship time.
The fellowship program is planned for members of OSRC from developing countries. The fellowship program is based on a visit to Norway for a period of 3 to 6 months. During this period the fellow will work on OSRC’s project, help in administration of OSRC’s activities and network with the host university.
We would like to give priority to members who have been active in supporting OSRC’s activities locally and internationally.
We shall announce these fellowship programs on our website and on our social media platforms when the agreements are signed with the above-mentioned universities.

The new era of Social Media and Digital Health: Specialsession in the ESCP annual conference 2023 Vilnius-Lithuania
The ESCP (European Society of Colo-Proctology) will have a special session dedicated to social media.
OSRC researchers will participate in this session. Prof. Steven Wexner, prof. Julio Mayol and prof. Alaa El-Hussuna will give talks about social media and effective platforms to stimulate collaboration.

Update about OSRC research projects
In collaboration with researchers from Copenhagen and Aalborg university we started a new project about video tracking in laparoscopic and robotic surgery.
Our project about visualisation of blood vessels in preoperative CT scans of abdomen to predict the anastomotic leak, started recruiting in two sites in Denmark. We have also a team in Turkey progressing in a good pace.
Natural language processing project to read healthcare records is in designing phase now. We have collaborators from a couple of Norwegian universities. We need a fully dedicated investigator to the project. This project might be associated with the fellowship program.
OSRC annual meeting and general assembly on the 26th September 2023
We are planning our first face-to-face annual meeting and general assembly during the ESCP conference.
The meeting will take place on the 26th September at September the 26th. 2023, 18:30- 20:00 (Vilnius-Lithuania’s local time) 17:30-19:00 (CET)

How OSRC will manage its activities?
We would like to build local teams in the countries where we have more than 20 members. These local teams will arrange OSRC activities, connect OSRC members in the country and be part of OSRC projects running in these countries.
We need team leaders.
